My hospital bag

About a year ago I was as big as a hippo. I walked around like a penguin, stressing about everything that could go wrong when I would go to labour. This is a scary time for first time mothers. At 35 weeks I should’ve had my hospital bag ready…

Happy and pregnant at 36 weeks

But there are so many lists of what you should bring for the baby, bring for yourself and for your partner. But everything I read online or in the booklets from the obstetrician was so much. It looked like I was going on vacation.

What did I actually used from my hospital bag? What did I bring and did not need?

Let’s make this list together!

For the baby:

  • A carseat
  • 2 rompers. (2 sizes)
  • 2 sets of going home clothing. (2 sizes)
  • Socks and a Hat (we got a little hat from the hospital we could keep)
  • Diapers newborn size(usually the hospital has them for you,but just in case I packed 2 diapers)
  • Formula if you want to bottle feed
  • Bottle if you want to bottle feed
  • A blanket
  • Pacifier, but I found the right pacifier when she was 2 weeks old. I tried a few different ones, before we found the one she liked.
She got this hat from the hospital.

What did I pack for myself:

  • Comfy clothes for leaving the hospital
  • I did not wear a bra after I gave birth.
  • Toiletries(U want to shower before going home)
  • Slippers
  • A Robe
  • Onesie(cause… why not?)
  • Music if you would like that. Create your own birthing playlist
  • Snacks and drinks you prefer to have on hand. At the hospital I got water and lemonade, I brought soda myself.
  • Phonecharger
  • Something like a tablet to watch a movie if u want or are able to. ( we had a tv in our room, with 4 channels…)

What did I pack for my partner?

  • Charger
  • Comfy clothes
  • Snacks and drinks
  • Toiletries (he did not use, except for the toothbrush)
  • Slippers

What we did not think about?

  • The Nintendo switch or gameboy for my partner. He was bored, because he had to wait a long time.
  • His dinner. My dinner was included with the room, but my partner’s was not. He did not eat dinner. It was sunday and the hospital restaurant was closed.
  • Music for me, but I loved the silence in my room.

In the end, the only thing that mattered was my little girl when we left the hospital.
